(Conclusion)
CONCLUDING our review of 2010, we will look at how the Liu Feng Shui predictions played out in the southwestern and western regions of the globe.
Southwest
The volatile Star 5 came into the southwest in 2010. We predicted this formidable energy would bring disaster related to the earth, as both the southwest direction and Star 5 are associated with earth.
On February 27, 2010, along the southwest coast of South America in Chile, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake occurred, tying it with the fifth largest earthquake in the world since 1900. Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet pronounced the quake, which displaced more than 1.5 million people, one of the worst tragedies to occur in the region in the last 50 years. The quake was strong enough to shift the earth’s axis and was followed by two dozen significant aftershocks, setting off tsunami waves across the Pacific.
A second disaster occurred in Chile on August 5, 2010 when the earth caved in upon 33 miners, trapping them in a chamber of a copper mine approximately 2,300 feet below the earth’s surface. After 17 days of not knowing the miners’ fate, a small bore hole reached the chamber enabling the miners to send word that they were alive. A massive rescue effort was promptly put into gear, and by October 13, 2010, all 33 miners were pulled up out of the earth alive.
Stars 1 and 6 accompanied Star 5 in the southwest. One interpretation of this star combination indicated political robbery and corruption. Within the southwest United States in the City of Bell, California, Mayor Oscar Hernandez and ex-city manager Robert Rizzo were among eight officials – both current and former – arrested for misappropriation of public funds that resulted in $5.5 million of excessive salaries and personal loans. The misappropriation was conducted through payments for “phantom” meetings and unapproved employment contracts.
Financial struggles and economic crises were also forecasted for southwestern regions. This was reflected in California’s growing deficit. Although the California legislature passed a budget in October 2010 to close a $19 billion deficit gap, the incoming Governor-elect Jerry Brown stated that because of changes to the federal tax laws, California could face a $26 billion gap.
West
Stars 6 and 1 in the west led to forecasting that leaders of western regions would be seen engaging in diplomatic work.
United States President Barack Obama and Russian President Dimitri A. Medvedev signed the “New Start” arms control treaty, in which both countries agreed to pare back their nuclear arsenals. As reported in The New York Times in April, 2010, President Obama said, “When the United States and Russia are not able to work together on big issues, it’s not good for either of our nations, nor is it good for the world…Together, we’ve stopped that drift, and proven the benefits of cooperation. Today is an important milestone for nuclear security and nonproliferation, and for US-Russia relations.”
Also forecasted in the west, due to the double water Star 1, was excessive rain that would increase chances of flooding and mudslides in western regions. This forecast was evidenced in May 2010, when tropical storm Agatha hit Guatemala City and neighboring regions, wreaking havoc for 18 hours. More than three feet of rain fell in parts of Guatemala, causing the Guatemalan president, Álvaro Colom, to declare the region in a “state of calamity.” This is the most rain to have fallen in the area since 1949.
The flooding and mudslides from the intense wind and rain damaged 11,000 buildings and evacuated 151,000 people, cutting off communication and transportation lines, and compromising the condition of Central America’s biggest coffee crop. An inundation of water also caused a 30-story deep sinkhole to open up in a poverty-stricken neighborhood.
