THE key to power is in strategic positioning. If you have ever played chess or organized events, you have witnessed that the strongest player or lead performer always has the best position. This principle holds true on the battlefield, in a city’s capitol, in the corporate office, on a stage, in school, in your house, and in your own room.
To be successful, you must be able to see the big picture, have the grandest perspective, and be in the seat of command. In the landscape, this translates to a hill or mountain range behind your building which offers support, protection, and a view in the front. This type of geographic location is a basic auspicious feng shui land configuration. Conversely, a slope or view at the back of your building with a hill blocking the view in front of you does exactly the opposite and often creates instability and financial loss.
Similarly, in your work place you may have observed that employees who sit with a door, window, or walkway directly behind their chair are unstable, less productive, and likely to leave their job.
When your desk is placed so that you are forced to sit with your back to the door, you are in a vulnerable position, as you cannot see who is coming up behind you. The prospect of being disrupted unexpectedly from behind subconsciously hinders your ability to focus. This lack of privacy and security weakens you and is ultimately a detriment to your confidence and productivity.
Ideally, place your desk in the seat of command. This means, you have the fullest view of the room and an awareness of who enters through the door. Make sure there is a solid wall behind your chair. A solid wall acts like the auspicious mountain range mentioned above, offering a protective foundation. This positioning provides you with support to fuel your focus, establish stability, and create your power.
