A Boy with a big heart

I’ve been meaning to write about a remarkable multi-media presence in Philippine entertainment, a charismatic force by the name of Boy Abunda.

The first time I met Boy many years ago was through Alfie Lorenzo. It was a simple "hi!" and "bye" encounter on the set of a telemovie starring Kris Aquino and Boy’s then-ward Ariel Rivera. I ran into him again two years ago through a common friend of ours, celebrity chef/host Ron Bilaro. It was around that time that Boy was nominated by the Reflections committee for the Multi-Media Excellence Award but his busy schedule just would not permit him to accept the award here in Los Angeles.

Another time while I was in Manila visiting our common friend Ruffa Gutierrez on set at ABS-CB
N, I bumped into Boy again. He never forgets an acquaintance. We got to talking instantly although very briefly. Still, it was a meaningful connection. You can tell when you have a good rapport with someone when even a brief encounter leaves a lingering and pleasant impression on you. It seems that this is how Boy impacts those he meets.

Fall 2009 Hair Revival

With the end every season is the beginning of a new style. It’s always nice to welcome new seasons with an updated look.

This can be done by a simple haircut, or a change in hair color or perhaps by nourishing hair to revive its natural vibrancy.

Most of my regular clients like to start the season with all of the above. They say it keeps them on top of their game; it’s like a boost of confidence for them.

The Ladies & The Angelos

I only showcase talents I believe in and this up-coming-and-coming pop-classical all-male group has truly impressed me.

On Sunday, September 20, my production company Events Specialists is proud to present the captivating singing quartet, the Angelos, in an intimate concert at The Patio of Max’s Puente Hills Mall (1600 S. Azusa Avenue City of Industry CA 91748).

And I Love You So: A Tender Love Story Once again, I’m grateful for the amazing feedback from readers. There have been positive and somewhat negative reactions, I’m thankful for both.

I’d like to stress that my column is all about our leading men and women in the community, high-profile personalities and their noteworthy contributions. Hi! Society is also about beauty, fashion, style and trends.

Ireceived feedback from an anonymous sender who had issues about a high-profile personality
I’d written about recently. This anonymous sender was pointing out some "loopholes" in the character of the high-profile personality Ihad featured, relating to legal issues and such.

A royalty in words and deeds

IN our community, there are people who stand out without meaning to attract attention but by simply being their true, magnetic selves.

I have to acknowledge Ms. Marilyn "Princess" Robertson for being one of those personalities. For nearly 30 years, I’ve been around her work as successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. I can relate to her because, like myself, she has struggled and dealt with many challenges to get to where she is now.

I’ve observed her to be a gentle, unassuming lady. She is open and gracious to everyone, especially to our kababayans.

As of now, my knowledge of her is mostly based on reputation--we have many common friends and all of them are quick to sing her praises. I believe that if you can inspire good reviews like that from all your friends, then you’re truly a winner in the way that counts.
