Feilani Bennet RubinIt’s innate in me to be drawn to talented people or individuals who possess what we call the "It" factor. I like to believe I have the eye for potential, be it for beauty queens or male fashion models.

My penchant for discovery does not take a day off. Even at the oddest of places, my eyes are always searching for somebody to mentor.

Each experience with individual talents have been different. For some, it worked--they’ve achieved a certain level of success in the entertainment scene. For others, it didn’t quite work so well, mostly because of stubbornness and immaturity, which oftentimes go hand in hand with being young.

I’m proud to say, however, that for those who valued sensible advice and persevered, their hard work paid off!

I’m glad that in my own way, I played a role in helping these young people pursue their passions.

In a first of a series, I present the following "It" lady and gentlemen.
They make me proud.

Feilani Bennet Rubin - Of all places, I discovered young Feilani at a swap meet in Los Angeles. I was just browsing through the bargains that day when my eyes zeroed in on a tan, skinny girl with big, beautiful eyes. I chatted her up. Her personality was as shiny as her sweet face. Very amiable and accommodating. I was instantly convinced that she had the makings of a beauty queen. With my eyes, I appraised her from head to toe and told her: "I’m going to turn you into a beauty queen!"

A friend of mine remarked that Feilani was too skinny at that time. But I was resolute. I said, "Leave it to me, girl. I know one when I see one."

Feilani was a willing student.
She trained hard. It was like a beauty boot camp on poise, walking, interviews, and personality development.

When I saw that she was ready, I enlisted her on her first pageant, the Miss Philippines Expo, which she won. The judges were wowed by her--she was articulate, smart and she looked like a winner. The following year, I encouraged her to join Miss Asia-U

SA which she again won, by a landslide.
