Arroyo political plan known by Dec. 1

MANILA  - Those dying to hear President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declare her political plan should just wait for the Dec. 1 deadline for the filing of certificate of candidacy (CoC), her election lawyer said yesterday.

“By Dec. 1, people will know whether she will run or not. Having a deadline for the filing of CoC, the people will not be surprised anymore if she’s indeed running,’’ Romulo Macalintal said. “Let’s just wait until Dec. 1. Let’s have more suspense on this issue.’’

Sagip Pinoy lists qualities of ideal leader

MANILA - Kilusan Sagip Pinoy, a multisector alliance against poverty and hunger, said Friday that the country’s next president should have experience in managing the economy and the leadership to make economic programs work.

Sagip Pinoy president Crispin Soriano Jr. said the country’s next president should have the capability and the experience in turning the economy around because he would face the daunting task of saving the economy and solving poverty and hunger.

Manila to hold painting exhibit honoring Cory Aquino

MANILA - The Manila city government is holding a painting exhibit titled "Democracy in Yellow" as a tribute to former president Corazon Aquino who died a hundred days ago on Sunday.

The exhibit, organized by The Manila Historical and Heritage Commission, Manila Tourism and Cultural Affairs Bureau, Museo ng Maynila and Sigwada Gallery, will be formally opened by Mayor Alfredo Lim at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Lacson Underpass in Quiapo.
Pinky Aquino-Abellada, one of the five children of the late President, is expected to grace the occasion and deliver a message on behalf of the Aquino family.

‘Rowdy’ Embassy transforms into ‘wholesome’ Encore

MANILA — The controversial Embassy Superclub closed down for good as a new, "wholesome" bar was opened by its owners, the local government of Taguig said Friday.

In a report dated November 3, the city council’s joint committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, and Peace and Order and Drug Abuse Prevention endorsed the application of “Encore” for a business permit.
