Rescued Filipino street kids still abused

MANILA - "Why did they do that to us when they did not even know us?” Steve Estopito said, recalling the first time years ago when authorities “rescued” him off the streets of Malate, Manila.

Estopito said he was playing with six siblings and cousins under the noonday sun in front of the Malate Church when police in plainclothes swooped down on them and forcibly took them to a dingy center for street children.

Ad Congress goes to Subic

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT - Despite the short, three-week preparation for the 21st Philippine Advertising Congress here, this freeport and Olongapo City are ready to welcome delegates, as the biggest event in the local advertising industry opens Wednesday.

The event, which brings together the country’s top business, advertising and media firms, was originally scheduled in Baguio City, but the venue was transferred here after roads leading to the summer capital were damaged by landslides and floods triggered by strong typhoons in October.

Aquino tops Oct. survey of presidential bets

MANILA - Liberal Party’s Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III emerged on the top spot of the October 2009 Pulse Asia survey with the “big lead” over other presidential hopefuls for next year’s elections.

The nationwide survey, conducted from October 22 to 30, was undertaken solely by Pulse Asia on the “Filipinos’ Presidential Preference for the May 2010 Elections.”

Ralph Recto, Vilma Santos join Liberal Party

MANILA -  Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto and former Senator Ralph Recto are joining the Liberal Party (LP) and support the team-up of Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Manuel “Mar” Roxas II in the 2010 elections.

At the convention, Roxas also announced the LP’s senatorial slate composed of Recto, former congressman Neric Acosta, former Senator Franklin Drilon, Bukidnon Representative Teofisto Guingona III, Akbayan Representative Risa Hontiveros, detained general Danilo Lim, and former Senator Serge Osmena.
