Aussies roll back RP Youth volleybelles

MANILA - Despite the glaring height disparity, there seemed to be little difference between Australia and the Philippines.

But the Filipinos couldn’t make the most out of their good start in each set and bowed to the taller Australians, 21-25, 22-25, 23-25, Monday night in the 7th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Pacquiao, Hoya hit the gym

MANILA - Finally, it’s time to drop the toy gun, put down the microphone, and hit the gym for Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.

A day after ending their six-city tour designed to prop up the $54.95 pay-per-view buys for their Dec. 6 fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, both boxers headed for their respective training camps to start serious training.

PSC ready to justify budget

MANILA - Pushing for a budget increase next year, the Philippine Sports Commission is ready to defend its position when the bicameral body decides with finality on the PSC allocation for 2009 in a plenary session on Thursday.

PSC chair William Ramirez will present the flagship projects of the government sports agency for 2009 before the joint committee hearing of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Ateneo apologizes over bonfire incident

MANILA - A recent Ateneo bonfire celebration has added fuel to the varsity animosity between the Blue Eagles and the De La Salle University Green Archers, prompting an apology from top officials of the Loyola-based school.

Ateneo de Manila University president Fr. Bienvenido Nebres, SJ, recently apologized to the La Sallian community for an irreverent incident during the bonfire on the Ateneo campus last Sept. 30 to celebrate the UAAP championship won by the Eagles at the expense of the Archers.
