The Holiday Tradition Continues at Araneta Center

A time-honored Christmas tradition will soon take place in the metro’s premier lifestyle hub —the well-loved and much-anticipated lighting of the Giant Christmas Tree at the Araneta Center.

Since 1981, the Giant Christmas Tree at the Araneta Center, inspired by the Rockefeller Center’s Giant Christmas Tree in New York, has served as the city’s most popular Christmas icon with the traditional lighting ceremony officially signaling the start of yuletide festivities in the city.

Manila F.A.M.E International launches eco-fashionEco-passion meets fashion at the 50th edition of Manila F.A.M.E. International, a bi-annual trade platform for home and fashion lifestyle sectors. Old seat covers, fishnets, discarded x-ray films, plastic bags as well as sinamay, abaca, and bamboo were transformed into wearable pieces by young student designers inspired by fiestas, the jeepney, capiz windows, and even typhoon Ondoy. Fourteen design students from La Salle College International, School of Fashion and the Arts (SOFA), and University of the Philippine Diliman brought their A-game submitting a total of seventeen entries at Manila F.A.M.E.’s first Eco-Pinoy Fashion Design Competition held last October 15, 2009 at the World Trade Center. Chef Gene del Prado prepares a feast

Chef Gene del Prado prepares a feast

It isn’t exactly a mystery how Filipinos love food. Go to any corner in the world, and you will surely encounter a Pinoy whom you can engage in hours-long discussion about food. And in whatever gathering—a birthday, baptism, a job promotion or a house blessing—an enjoyable feast is to be expected.

Makati Shangri-La’s Executive Sous Chef Gene del Prado is no stranger to Filipino feasts. Growing up surrounded by food (his father was a chef as well), it was instinctive for Gene to acquire a passion for cooking. And he was bent in getting an early start. Right after finishing his high school education, Gene looked for work in restaurants. He was hired at various restaurants in Makati before settling at Manila Midtown Hotel for four years and Manila Peninsula Hotel for another four years. With no formal training to his name, Gene faced tough competition in the food service industry, but with hard work and passion, he managed to achieve his goals.

Dusit Thani Manila Awarded for the 2nd year by TTG as the City’s Best Hotel

The iconic purveyor of King Rama VI’s wondrous utopian kingdom in Manila, Philippines was once again awarded as the Best City Hotel – Manila during the 20th TTG Annual Travel Awards 2009 at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok, Thailand.

All readers of TTG Asia, TTG China, TTGmice, TTG-BTmice China, and TTG TravelHub.net Daily News were invited to vote their favorite travel and tourism organizations under the Travel Supplier and Travel Agent Awards Category over a period of three months, between June and August, 2009, which received more than 43,000 votes from TTG readers across Asia-Pacific who participated in the print and online voting exercise this year.

"It’s an overwhelming recognition, as there were no pre-nominated contenders for this award, the readers of TTG simply nominated organizations that they perceived best deserve this award, only basing their judgment on a listed set of criteria. It’s amazing to note that the public has Dusit Thani Manila on top of their minds", shares general manager Prateek Kumar.
