TANAY, Rizal – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Rotary International District 3780 have joined hands to rehabilitate the Kaliwa Watershed in Tanay, Rizal.

“The Kaliwa Watershed is a strategic area that needs immediate rehabilitation and enhancement of its biodiversity, not only of the Municipality of Tanay and the Province of Rizal but for the residents of Metro Manila as well,” the DENR and the rotary members said in their memorandum of understanding signed Wednesday.

In the memorandum, the DENR has been tasked to identify and designate the suitable areas for watershed rehabilitation activities where the businessmen’s group could conduct massive tree planting.

The DENR would also provide 50,000 seedlings for planting in 2008, the memorandum stated.

The Rotary members, on the other hand, said they aimed to plant one million trees in the area within the next few years. (Inquirer.net)
