MANILA — The controversial Embassy Superclub closed down for good as a new, "wholesome" bar was opened by its owners, the local government of Taguig said Friday.
In a report dated November 3, the city council’s joint committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, and Peace and Order and Drug Abuse Prevention endorsed the application of “Encore” for a business permit.
Encore said it will provide a more wholesome entertainment and with stricter security and lesser capacity.
Encore is owned and operated by the same proprietors of the Embassy Superclub but has been "renovated, rebranded and with an entirely new and unique entertainment concept with stricter and tighter security," the report said.
The new bar's maximum capacity will also be reduced and "extreme measures are to be taken to prevent bar brawls, disorderly conduct of guests, and any illegal activity," it added.
The Embassy Superclub had been ordered indefinitely closed last August after one of the customers got hurt in a stabbing incident and the bar's security personnel allegedly helped the suspect escape.
Taguig Vice Mayor George Elias said that the new club’s entertainment concept is the inclusion of jazz nights, ballroom dance sessions, stand up comedy acts, film screenings and Sunday bazaars.
“The business concept is entirely different from Embassy we used to know. We believe that this new concept will attract a more mature audience as opposed to the younger and rowdy crowd of the former Embassy,” Elias said.
Encore management, in its proposal, also pledged to install 70 close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in and outside the club, as well as the assignment of 52 security officers in the club.
