MANILA - Charice Pempengco and Arnel Pineda were the most search local celebrities in Google. But when it comes to newsmakers, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is the undisputed champ.
Google has released its year-end list of most popular search items entered by those logged on to www.google.com.ph.
Called Zeitgeist, the list is broken down into categories including fastest-rising search terms and most searched-for celebrities and gadgets.
Manny Pacquiao, meanwhile, was by far the most searched-for in the local Google News portal.
The next most-searched for news items are about his fights -- "pacquiao vs de la hoya," "pacquiao marquez fight" and "pacquiao diaz fight."
Singers Pineda and Pempengco who were both discovered thanks to YouTube, emerged as the most searched-for Filipino celebrities.
Trailing them is DJ Montano, a local socialite who became hot topic after becoming the subject of a scandal.
The online game Cabal tops the list of fastest-rising search terms for this year.
Interestingly, Pangasinan is the most searched-for travel destination beating Cebu, Palawan and Baguio.
The iPhone 3G, launched locally around middle of the year, is the most searched-for gadget in by Filipinos although several Nokia handset models are in the top 10
For government-related searches, Filipinos are turning to Google for help when it comes to Social Security System (SSS) matters and lotto results, linking to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) webpage.
