CITY OF MALOLOS - Waters in two dams in Bulacan breached its maximum levels on Saturday following heavy rains accompanying tropical storm Ondoy, reports from the provincial disaster coordinating council (PDCC) showed.

PDCC reports said the water level at the Angat Dam in Norzagaray town reached 211.14 meters on Saturday, breaching its spilling level of 210 meters.

Liza Mungcal, PDCC Bulacan officer, said water at Ipo Dam, also in Norzagaray, reached its maximum level of 101 meters at 10:45 a.m.

PDCC reports said officials administering these dams ordered the release of excess water to ease the facilities’ carrying capacity.

Water released from Angat and Ipo dams would pass through rivers and waterways of Bustos, San Rafael, Baliuag, Plaridel, Pulilan, Calumpit, Hagonoy and Paombong towns.

Mungcal said the PDCC has asked mayors of the towns where the dam waters would pass through to prepare for possible floods and to ready evacuation plans for residents at risk.

PDCC reports said at least 26 villages in the towns of Marilao, San Miguel, Sta. Maria and Calumpit and Meycauyan City were submerged from a foot to three feet of floodwater on Saturday.
