In a letter delivered to Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. on Friday, Ad Board chairperson, Charmaine Canillas, said “the fortuitous events of the past weeks … have raised issues on road safety among the participants in the Ad Congress.”
“Our primordial concern is the safety and well being of the thousands of delegates, exhibitors and guests who will participate in the Ad Congress,” she told Bautista.
She said the Ad Board reached the decision “after conferring with government offices on road and travel safety, as well as a number of logistical experts.”
She did not identify where the 21st Ad Congress would be staged on Nov. 18, although Bautista confirmed that the Ad Board had favored the Subic Free Port.
“Since we started planning the Ad Congress late last year, … the idea of going back to Baguio City filled all of us with excitement. It was a fulfillment of our deepest wishes,” Canillas said.
She added: “We still believe, were it not for the acts of God and nature, that the city would have been the ideal venue for the Ad Congress. There is no place like Baguio [that is] more suitable or more welcoming.”
The city government has not responded to questions on whether it would try to appeal the Ad Board’s decision.
