ILOILO CITY - The Iloilo provincial government will send a team of doctors and nurses to Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces to help provide free medical services to victims of Tropical Storm “Ondoy,” a government official here said.

Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel Mejorada on Wednesday said Gov. Niel Tupas has tasked the provincial health office to organize the medical mission to provide assistance to the overworked government and private doctors now attending to the victims of flood caused by "Ondoy."

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado will lead the medical mission, Mejorada said.

The first medical team was expected to leave Iloilo on Friday while the second team would be deployed over the weekend, he said.

Each team will have six members, each with three doctors and three staff, Mejorada added.

Mejorada also said Iloilo province, on the request of Tupas, would also extend a financial assistance of P500,000 each to Rizal and Bulacan, the provinces also ravaged by the floods.

The Iloilo provincial board has approved on Tuesday the release of the aid to be taken from the province's P58.2-million calamity fund.
