TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte - Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez expressed support for the presidential bid of Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro of Lakas-Kampi, as well as the senatorial bid of his cousin, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., who has been allied with the Nacionalista Party.
"I will toe the (party) line. I belong to the administration party," Romualdez said on Wednesday, unmindful of the defections by some of the party members who included Biliran Governor Rogelio Espina.
Romualdez was named chairman of the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD in Tacloban City two months ago.
He said he did not see anything wrong in supporting Teodoro, the presumptive presidential candidate of the administration, and of his cousin Bongbong.
"Everybody is doing that. Even some members of the Cabinet might support other presidential candidates (coming from the opposition)," Romualdez said.
During Sen. Manuel Villar's visit to Tacloban City in June, Romualdez had presented the senator to the barangay officials of the city.
He also said that the Romualdezes and Marcoses have been identified with the Nacionalista Party since his uncle, former President Ferdinand Marcos was once with the party.
Romualdez would be seeking a second term as Tacloban City mayor with his father Alfredo and wife Cristina as among his choices for running mate.
The elder Romualdez was the mayor of Tacloban for nine years and was succeeded by his son in 2007.
