Aquino, Teodoro sign pact for orderly, honest polls

MANILA – Presidential hopefuls former defense Secretary Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro, Jr. and Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, have pledged to uphold "clean, honest and orderly elections."

The oath-taking at the GMA Network is part of the television station's campaign and coverage for the 2010 elections.

GMA Network is the media partner of the Philippine Daily Inquirer for the 2010 elections.

The oathtaking was witnessed by Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Ferdinand Rafanan for Chairman Jose Melo.

Aside from the oathtaking, the two candidates also signed an agreement, similar to the one signed by other presidential and vice-presidential aspirants last August in the event also organized by GMA 7 dubbed "Tatakbo ka Ba" (Will You Run) held at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

When asked what the significance of such pledges were in the election, Teodoro said this served as a reminder to all candidates of their responsibilities as candidates running for public office.

"When you file your certificate of candidacy, you pledge to uphold the rules stated there. This [oathtaking] is a repeat and a reminder of that pledge to a wider audience," Teodoro said in a chance interview after the oathtaking.

Teodoro is the standard bearer for the administration's Lakas-Kampi-CMD while Aquino is the presidential candidate for the Liberal Party.
