MANILA – Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Senator Manuel Villar are statistically tied in the presidential derby in the survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) at the start of the official campaign period a month ago.
Aquino, standard-bearer of the Liberal Party (LP), got an overall score of 36 percent against the 34 percent of Nacionalista Party’s Villar.
But the gap between the two candidates falls within the ±2.2 percent margin of error of the nationwide poll conducted by Business World on 2,100 respondents from February 24 to 28.
Former president Joseph Estrada (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) ranked third with 15 percent, while administration candidate Gilbert Teodoro (Lakas-Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats) remained at fourth spot with 6 percent.
Evangelist Eddie Villanueva is at fifth with 3 percent, followed by Senator Richard Gordon (Bagumbayan) with 2 percent, independent candidate Nicanor Perlas with 0.2 percent, and Ang Kapatiran bet John Carlos “JC” De Los Reyes and Senator Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal with 0.1 percent each.
In this survey, respondents were asked to pick from the list of candidates they were provided in “ballots,” which they marked in private and then deposited in a container brought by the interviewer.
The names in the ballot were in alphabetical order and included nicknames of the candidates.
The survey question was, “Kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon, sino ang pinakamalamang ninyong iboboto bilang Presidente, Bise-Presidente, at mga Senador ng Pilipinas. Narito ang listahan ng mga kandidato. Paki-shade o itiman po ang naa-angkop na oval katabi ng pangalan ng taong pina-kamalamang ninyong iboboto [If the elections were held today, whom would you most probably vote for as President, Vice-President, and Senators of the Philippines.
