MANILA, Philippines - It’s good to know the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC) can still find some integrity amid the corruption pervading the government.
The PAGC handed out recently “anticorruption champion” awards for the third quarter to 10 government agencies for strides made in the fight against malfeasance in their respective offices.
Former Hong Kong anticorruption czar Tony Man-Wai Kwok, now an honorary adviser to President Macapagal-Arroyo, joined PAGC officials in presenting the awards to the Department of Social Welfare and Development and nine other agencies in ceremonies held in Malacañang.
PAGC chair, Secretary Constancia de Guzman, announced at the rites that three agencies perceived as most corrupt—the Land Transportation Office, Department of Public Works and Highways and Bureau of Immigration—were now “anticorruption champions.”
The other awardees were the Department of Health, Land Bank of the Philippines, National Housing Authority, Department of Science and Technology, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Department of Finance.
De Guzman said the recipients were judged on compliance with the anticorruption measures embodied in the Integrity Development Action Plan (Idap) and the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan 2004-10 of the Arroyo administration.
