ARNEL PINEDA HONORED AT WARRIORS FILIPINO HERITAGE NIGHT. Journey’s main man Arnel Pineda was the guest of honor during the Filipino Heritage Night last November 6 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. The Filipino Heritage Night sold 2,500 tickets and featured the Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Clippers. Filipina holds second top post in California

A Filipino-American woman now holds the second highest position in the California state government.

Mona Pasquil was appointed interim lieutenant governor of the state by Lt. Gov. John Garamendi last Nov 10, a statement from the Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) said.

"Lt Garamendi’s chief of staff, Filipina-American Mona Pasquil will serve in an acting capacity as lieutenant governor," APIAVote said in the statement released on Nov 11.

California Democratic Lt. Gov. Garamendi beat Republican David Warner at the elections, for the state’s 10th Congressional District.

Group says Asian women in the US are at high risk for domestic violence

Filipinos in brokered marriages cited

Saying Asian women have one of the highest fatality rates in the US, a women’s organization is urging local and federal governments to include this group in current research on domestic violence.

"Demand that more research be conducted on Asian women and domestic violence," the National Asian Pacific Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) said in a statement.

CITIZENS REDISTRICTING COMMISSION: Greenlining draw lines for diverse democracy with ‘Line Up California!’

LAST YEAR, voters passed Proposition 11, the California Voters FIRST Act, which calls for the creation of a new Citizens Redistricting Commission. This commission composed of 14 members will be responsible for re-drawing the district lines for the Assembly, Senate and State Equalization Board.

In response to this, The Greenlining Institute is working to ensure that the Citizens Redistricting Commission reflects the diversity found throughout California through their new initiative, Line Up California!
