CDC: Get Vaccinated

Centers for Disease Control (CDC) officials, led by Medical officer Dr. Andrew Kroger, sat down with ethnic media representatives at the New America Media office in downtown San Francisco to exchange views and emphasize the need for vaccination from both the seasonal and H1N1 (swine) types of flu."President Obama’s declaration of H1N1 as a national emergency has allowed for the setting up of more flu clinics and mass vaccination clinics," said Dr. Kroger. "Our target are younger individuals for the swine flu vaccine as they seem to get the worse effects from the virus. Many people who have chronic diseases (including heart disease and asthma), respiratory illnesses, renal and liver diseases, sickle cell disease and diabetes can have serious complications if they get swine flu and should also get vaccinated."

California prohibits advance fee on loan modificationloans

Question: What is the new law in California in collecting advance fee on loan modification?

Answer: SB 94 was signed into law and made effective last October 11, 2009 make it illegal to collect advance fee on loan modification. However, fees may be collected if the contracted work has been accomplished. The prohibition covers any person including real estate licensees and attorneys.

Is your doctor Filipino?

IT has probably happened to most Pinoys in the US once or twice. Overindulging in lola’s paksiw or drinking the special spiced vinegar that came with the package of bagnet gave one a case of hyperacidity.

Going to the doctor meant being hooked up to an I.V., undergoing a CT scan, and spending so many hours in the hospital lingering for results. The hyperacidity is intensifi ed as much by the long wait as the embarrassing task of explaining to the doctor and nurses why that much vinegar was downed in the fi rst place.

Pacquiao stronger than ever in first US workout

LOS ANGELES – FOR those who heard the loud popping sounds while waiting outside the Wildcard Boxing Gym Monday afternoon, those weren’t fireworks.

The Pound-4-Pound King Manny Pacquiao looks stronger than any of his previous fights, and his 12-round mitt session with trainer Freddie Roach sounded like machine guns bouncing off walls.

Pacquiao had a great two in a half hour workout at the Wildcard that ended with Roach’s mitt flying off his right hand.

"I quit," said an exasperated Roach to Pacquiao while kicking the mitt off the ring.

Obama announces big backing for small business

PRESIDENT Obama announced in Maryland last Oct 21 his administration’s proposals to help small businesses and unveiled initiatives to give bigger backing to small businessmen to thrive. On the same day, the government’s administrator for Small Business Administration (SBA), Karen Mills, and Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury, Gene Sperling, held a conference call with regional reporters to discuss Obama’s new lending initiatives that will help small businesses access the credit they need to grow and thrive.

Mills announced that they are proposing to increase the caps for existing SBA loans and give smaller banks better access to TARP funding to encourage more lending to small business.
