CA job market improving

AP PhotoTHERE were 28,900 new jobs in California last December which resulted in the dropping of the unemployment rate in the state. “We’re moving in line with the developments taking place in the US as a whole,” reported the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation’s (LAEDC) Chief Economist, Dr. Robert Kleinhenz.

Dr. Robert Kleinhenz, Chief Economist at the Kyser Center for Economic Research, hosted a teleconference call a few days ago with the members of the press, including Asian Journal.

He discussed the latest United States Department of Commerce and Department of Labor employment figures for the month of January.

Many areas in California saw job gains in the past two months, especially in the real estate segment. More homes and offices are being built which means more jobs for the local community.

Times are still hard and there’s a slow turn before the economy can fully recover, said Kleinhenz, but California’s employment rate continues to improve.

“In fact, California is doing better than the nation as a whole,” the LAEDC Chief Economist stated.

Robert A. Kleinhenz, Ph.D. has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree and a Doctorate from the University of Southern California, all in Economics. Prior to joining the LAEDC, he served as Deputy Chief Economist at the California Association of REALTORS® and taught economics for over 15 years, most recently at California State University, Fullerton.

The LAEDC, the region’s premier economic development leadership organization, is a private, non-profit organization established in 1981 under section 501(c)(3). Its mission is to attract, retain, and grow business and jobs for the regions of Los Angeles County. Since 1996, the LAEDC has helped retain or attract more than 171,300 jobs while providing $8.4 billion in direct economic impact from salaries and more than $144 million in annual tax revenue benefit to local governments and education in Los Angeles County.
