Four little girls were paid a few dollars every time they completed household chores their parents assigned to them. Six-year old Ellen, however, repeatedly refused to finish her assignments. Her father asked why she did not do her tasks. She told him, "But Dad, I don’t need the money." Unlike Ellen however, "Nevada does need money." Small Business Administrator (SBA) Karen Mills last Wednesday, July 2nd.Sen. Reid had invited Ms to address concerns of small businesses in Las Vegas during, what he called "challenging" economic times.
The Nevada senator told the story about her four granddaughters to Ms Mills and the audience at the 6th Annual Joint Chambers Luncheon in Las Vegas . He asked the SBA to tell members of the three chambers how the federal government can help small businesses in their groups.
"We have difficulties because of the recession. We need to dust ourselves off and get back on our feet," said Latin Chamber of Commerce chair Irene Bustamante-Adams.
Members of the Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Urban Chamber of Commerce were also present at the event held at Paris Hotel.
For her part, Ms Mills stressed the importance that the Obama administration is giving to small businesses around the country.
"(President Obama) cares deeply about small businesses, about how they are created around the kitchen table. They’ve provided immigrants-among others- the path to prosperity," she told the audience.
