A commission composed of individuals from both the government and private sector will be tasked to solve existing and emerging crime problems in Nevada.

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons said he will soon create the Nevada Crime Commission "to explore new ways to reduce crime in Nevada and find real solutions to current day crime problems."

"Honest law-abiding citizens and people in government need to work together to fight crime," he added.

Current day problems in Nevada include mortgage fraud, internet crime, prescription drug abuse and Medicare or Medicaid fraud, the governor said. He also cited gang-related violent crimes.

"Whether it is mortgage fraud, Medicaid fraud, or another type of scheme, everyone is working with tighter budgets and if crooks want to profit from fraud, I want them stopped and brought to swift justice," he said.

The soon to be created crime commission will "seek innovative methods and solutions to combat these crimes," he added.

The group will be composed of law enforcement officers from all levels of government in Nevada , as well as state and local prosecutors.

To participate from the private sector are business leaders, community leaders and activists, as well as representatives of crime victims groups.

In addition, the governor said he will invite federal agencies to participate. These include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Attorney’s Office and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
