ONE of the tourism campaigns promoting the Philippines is entitled "More Than The Usual". The spectacular video shows the many reasons why the Philippines is more than the usual holiday destination and why Filipinos like to take things way beyond the average. Truly, Filipinos enjoy going out of their way to give more than the expected. Handog ng FASO sa Pasko is one great proof of this national trait. The much-awaited Christmas concerto on Dec 6 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium is unlike any other shows you’ve ever seen.
Besides giving Filipinos in America a magnificent Christmas concert they will long remember, Handog ng FASO sa Pasko will also give even the passersby along Green St, in front of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium a beautiful pre-concert show – for free!
Colorful Christmas parols will decorate and brighten the auditorium’s façade, which will be the perfect backdrop for the pre-concert. As early as 3PM, the front of the auditorium, on top of the stairs leading to the big front doors, will be the stage for a memorable cultural show. Dancers from the KULTURA Philippine Folk Arts under the leadership of its directress, Celia de Fato, will perform a musical dance concert that will feature the best of the Philippine cultural dances. A 15-member, all-male Filipino chorale will also serenade the audience with Christmas and pop songs.
At 4:30pm, the pre-concert show ends as the doors open in time for the Handog ng FASO sa Pasko main show at 5PM. With Charice Pempengco and the 60-member superb Filipino American Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro Bob Shroder, the concerto will also feature outstanding singers like Joey Albert, sopranos Kit Navarro and Isabella Ramos, Joanne Marie Villanueva, and several excellent Fil-Am adult and children’s choirs. The Christmas show will present well-loved Pinoy Christmas carols and excerpts from Handel’s Messiah.
