Mayor Domingo Doctor of BurgosLOS ANGELES – Mayor Domingo Doctor of Burgos, Pangasinan is a man who walks the talk.

Described as a straight arrow politician who governs the land the way he should, Doctor wants to bring his philosophy and authority to the first district seat of Pangasinan in Congress next May, if elected to the post.

"My philosophy is if I can do it in my town, I can do it on a much larger scale in the district," said Doctor to the Asian Journal. "The word has spread and people know that I am that kind of fellow who can impose discipline, impose the law without favor, and get people to work and become law-abiding."

"Before I became mayor [of Burgos] there were a lot of problems in that town," he added. "There was a lot of crime, [and] it was very dirty but that’s not true anymore. That’s why I’m here to promote the town to my townmates and ask them to invest and help me bring development to locality."

He said Filipino politicians are perceived to be corrupt warlords who enrich themselves through their governance.

He’s not like them, he said.

"For me, since becoming a politician, I did what was right, something a good person should be. They say I’m a different kind of politician - who walks his talk with honesty, integrity, public service, dedication, and commitment to the people," he assures.

The three-term mayor of Burgos (a population of 21,000) in Pangasinan arrived to the US in early December and began his campaign for the first district seat of Pangasinan to the many overseas Filipino workers (OFW’s) and dual citizen Fil-Ams eligible to vote in next year’s Philippine national elections.

Doctor was the first person to file his certificate of candidacy to represent the first district of Pangasinan in Congress. He’s representing the Nacionalista Party.

The first district of Pangasinan is composed of one city and nine municipalities. The city is Alamino City and the municipalities include Agno, Anda, Bani, Bolinao, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Mabini, and Sual. There is an estimated population of 379,000.

The 55-year-old Doctor is up against stiff competition. He faces six other candidates for the first district seat of Pangasinan being vacated by termed out Congressman Arthur D. Celeste.
