FOLLOWING the nomination of Tani Cantil-Sakauye as America’s first Filipino American Supreme Court Chief Justice by Gov. Schwarzenegger, Mabuhay Alliance lauded the efforts of the California governor in recognizing the achievements of Filipino-Americans.
Faith Bautista, the President and CEO of Mabuhay Alliance stated, "Governor Schwarzenegger has recognized Filipino American achievements by his appointment of the first Filipina in the history of America to be nominated as Chief Justice of any state supreme court. This is a recognition that has escaped us since we arrived in America more than 250 years ago. Sadly, President Obama has not yet appointed any Filipino Americans to the federal judiciary or his cabinet. And, only two of the 6,000 corporate board members of Fortune 500 corporations are Filipino-American."
For more than a year, Mabuhay Alliance has been urging President Obama for the appointment of the first Asian American to the US Supreme Court. The organization has also been advocating for Filipino-Americans to play a more active role in corporate boards and among the highest ranks of the judiciary and other professional positions.
"Our nation’s four million Filipino Americans have struggled to be recognized for our many unique achievements and we are most gratified that Governor Schwarzenegger has provided an inspiration to all Asian Americans. Our next goal should be the first Filipino American governor in California history," says Mabuhay Alliance. (AJPress, Mabuhay Alliance press release)
