Since their platforms are parallel to the interests of the Asian business community, six candidates have officially received the support of the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce (ACC) for the November elections.
"The endorsement criteria were based on the candidates’ platform that align with the best interests of the Asian American business community," Duncan Lee, chairman of the ACC political action committee (PAC) said.
Included in the list of local candidates are Jason Frierson for NV Assembly District 8, Irene Bustamante Adams for NV Assembly District 42, Susan Brager for Clark County Commissioner for District F.
Also in the list backed by the ACC was Clark County Sheriff Douglas Gillespie. The group also supports candidates for Clark County School District Trustee District D, Javier Trujillo and for District F, Carolyn Edwards.
The endorsement was announced during Asian Chamber’s September luncheon at the Vdara Hotel in Las Vegas last Sept. 23.
The (candidates) are predominant around the Spring Mountain corridor, and their decisions affect our Asian American community, Lee noted
"We want to make sure our voices are heard," he told Asian Journal in a telephone interview.
The ACC PAC chose the six candidates last August after several meetings with the hopefuls. Aside from Lee, the eight-member ACC-PAC includes Dr. Chen Young, Arthur de Joya, Robert Young, Stan Saito, Vida Lin, Pauline Lee and Duy Nguyen.
"The PAC spent over 10 hours interviewing 15 candidates. After the entire process, our bi-partisan PAC-Board voted on each race to endorse a candidate," Lee said.
"We feel their views best represents the Asian Chamber members and the Asian American business community," the group said in a statement.
The Las Vegas AAC is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote economic growth for its members, Asian-American entrepreneurs. Since its establishment in 1986, it has been its goal to bring about political, social and economic parity for the Asian community in the city.
"Our goal is to become a major forum and significant economic force in bringing about political, social and economic parity for Nevada ‘s Asian Pacific American community," ACC president Vida Lin had said in a message on the chamber’s website. (Dymphna Calica-La Putt/AJPress)
