The Filipino Channel’s Balitang America and Adobo Nation reap international awards

ABS-CBN International’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) has added more reasons for us Filipinos in the United States to be proud. We can now compete in America and around the worldagainst big broadcasting corporations and mainstream media companies in America when it comes to excellence in reporting news and stories that matter.
What makes these awards even sweeter and more meaningful is that the lean staff at TFC works hard every day and every week to deliver our newscast “Balitang America” and the magazine show “Adobo Nation” to the Fil-Am community, while operating on limited resources. Yet, this does not stop our talented and dedicated professionals in their pursuit of excellence and sense of purpose in doing their jobs.
Here are the men and women who made our community proud, as reported by Balitang America:
Balitang America (BA) was recently honored with trophies by the 35th Annual Telly Awards — the premier award honoring the finest film and video productions around the world.
The BA documentary “Skating on Thin Ice” produced and reported by Steve Angeles won a bronze trophy. Steve’s documentary followed the story of history-making Filipino ice skater Michael Martinez as he captivated the Philippines when he competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.
Also winning a bronze trophy is BA’s technology report on revolutionizing the money transfer business, produced and reported by North America Bureau Chief Paul Henson. Paul reported on a Silicon Valley start-up that aims to reduce the cost of money transfer by allowing person to person transactions using a smartphone.
Paul and Steve’s pieces were shot by Jeremiah Ysip, and edited by Jon Santos and Daniel Manansala.
Our New York/New Jersey Correspondent Don Tagala’s story on a high-end Pinoy hairstylist, who has been changing lives of homeless people in New York with free haircuts, was awarded a Bronze Telly.
Another documentary produced and written by Don Tagala, “Casting Call” — the Story of Sam Milby’s quest to find opportunities in the Big Apple — also received a Bronze Telly.
Meantime, Adobo Nation won a bronze trophy for its feature entitled “The Prodigy”, about 11-year-old Muay Thai fighter Justin Rodriguez. This was produced by BA’s Rommel Conclara, shot by Jeremiah Ysip and Nino Nucum, and edited by Jon Santos.
MABUHAY!
