The Filipino American Student Association (FASA), is a student organization at UNLV that has been active since the early 1990s. FASA is an organization that provides a home away from home for our student members who are from all over the United States and some even from the Philippines and Guam. We pride ourselves for not only being a Filipino organization but also a multi-cultural one that seeks to learn and preserve our Filipino Heritage.
Mission
While learning and preserving our Filipino culture, we participate in activities that help promote unity in the UNLV and Las Vegas community. Aside from hosting social functions that promote tranquility among students, we also are very active in serving our local community. Some of the prior community service projects that we have participated in are Meals on Wheels, various canned food drives, and other activities in conjunction with other service organizations. We also participate in events that bring together the hundreds of other Filipino American Student Associations from other College Universities around the nation. The main event for this upcoming Fall Semester is Friendship Games, which is a two day conference in which each organization tests their teamwork and leadership skills in various competitions against other schools. UNLV FASA has had an excellent turn out in recent years. Overall, our activities help build character, leadership, and a sense of dignity in our members. These characteristics, developed in FASA, will help us in our transition from the Academic World to the Work Force.
