Consulate Bulletin: Minors Travelling to the philippines

FilAm activist to return to RP Monday

The Filipino American activist who has accused the military of abducting her a couple of months ago is set to arrive in the Philippines on Monday evening to pursue her case here, the Commission on Human Rights said Sunday.

In a press statement, the rights body said it would take protective custody of Melissa Roxas upon her return from the United States.

26 Pinoy nurses lose racial bias case in NY

GARDEN CITY, NEW YORK  (AP) - The discrimination claims filed by 26 Filipino nurses and physical therapists in New York have been rejected by a US federal judge.

In their suit, the health workers said they were forced to quit their jobs at nursing homes in New York City and suburban Long Island, and that agreements made about working conditions before they left the Philippines were not honored by their US employers.

California Senate approves Fil-Am History Month

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate has unanimously approved legislation to officially recognize the accomplishments of Filipino Americans. Senate Concurrent Resolution 48, authored by Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo), will declare October as Filipino American History Month.

“It is imperative that we continue efforts to promote the accomplishments of Filipino Americans,” said Yee, whose district includes one of the largest Filipino communities outside of the Philippines. “For far too long the role of Filipinos in our national history has been ignored. Through SCR 48, we help ensure that our children learn about this important history.”

Fil-Am robbery case underway

THE movie “Ocean’s Eleven” inspired a Filipino-American to steal more than $1.5 million from an Indian Casino, according to his attorney.

Rolando Luda Ramos, 27, is accused of masterminding a million dollar heist at the Soboba Casino in the Inland Empire two years ago.
