AS continuing demonstrations by four million Filipino Americans in the United States and over one hundred million across the world demonstrate, the Philippine people are not willing to let the powerful Chinese government pillage our resources and weaken our future. Led by Loida Nicolas-Lewis, the current chair of US Pinoys for Good Governance and former Chair of NaFFA, Filipinos have protested the Chinese government drilling off the shores of Palawan for trillions of dollars of oil that belongs to the Philippines and its people, not China.
Faith Bautista, the President of the National Asian American Coalition, one of our nation’s leading advocacy organizations, joined the protest in San Francisco on July 8th. She stated that her organization is fully behind Loida Nicolas Lewis and the Philippine people.
Faith Bautista stated: “The Philippine government lacks the military force and the economic resources to defeat China. But, we can learn from past successful guerilla warfare, best demonstrated by the North Vietnamese who outlasted both the French and U.S. governments.
“We will be using a jiu-jitsu effort. Our organization will seek to delay, if not fully stop the Chinese government’s acquisition of all banking companies in the United States. As a first step, we have filed before the Federal Reserve Board and the FDIC a protest against the Chinese government buying Bank of East Asia, with thirteen branches in New York and San Francisco. This is an effort by the Chinese government through its largest bank, ICBC, to within five years dominate the financial industry throughout Europe and the United States.”
Bautista continued: “There are many other avenues where the Filipino American community can force the Chinese government, without even one of our soldiers, to stop its oil drills off the shores of Palawan. This includes boycotts of specific Chinese-made goods sold at Walmart (estimated one-fourth of all Walmart’s nonfood products are produced in China). Similarly, we can protest before the California Public Utilities Commission and before the U.S. Department of Energy any solar or wind power plants that are in part owned or financed by the Chinese government.”
“Our organization will take the lead regarding the Chinese government’s attempt to dominate American banking and looks forward to working with our thousands of Filipino American nonprofits, led by our leader Loida Nicolas Lewis, in repelling the immoral and repugnant Chinese invasion of our great nation.”
