ABOUT 20 members and friends of Kalahi Philippine Folkloric Ensemble attended the Dress Rehearsal for the recently concluded Miss Universe Beauty Pageant at Mandalay Bay on August 23, 2010.
To show their pride and their support for Ms. Philippines Venus Raj, some members wore authentic ethnic costumes to the event, while others wore Kalahi shirts emblazoned with the Sarimanok, one of the most recognizable Philippine emblems for Filipinos.
The sight of Kalahi in their very colorful and “quintessentially Filipino” attire further stoked the sense of Pinoy pride and excitement already felt by the hundreds of Filipinos in attendance. Kalahi was also instrumental in leading several enthusiastic chants of “Philippines!” complete with the waving of the Philippine flag to counter the equally enthusiastic contingent for Mexico.
