WEST NEW YORK, NJ - “[We’re] extremely disappointed, disgusted and very angry. He promised change, gave everyone hope that he will be different. Whatever happened in the past few weeks proved that he’s no different from everyone else.”
With those words, Carina Dacer, daughter of slain publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer, broke her family’s silence of about three weeks and expressed her frustration and disappointment over how the administration of President Aquino has handled the case.
After almost ten years, the Dacer family believes that there seems to be no progress in the investigation of her father’s murder.
Dacer also lambasted Senator Panfilo Lacson, the alleged mastermind of the Dacer-Corbito double murder case, who surfaced in the Philippines after his arrest warrant was lifted by the Philippine Department of Justice three weeks ago.
“Sen. Lacson mocked the justice system. He was teaching the Filipino citizens how to evade the law which he was elected to uphold,” Carina said.
She also expressed disappointment over how some members of the media featured Sen. Lacson.
“I think the media should have focused on finding out—how did he find out that the warrant of arrest will be issued, kaya siya nakaalis. How he was able to travel without a passport or without a travel document that supposedly the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) never issued,” Carina said.
The Dacers were hopeful when President Noynoy Aquino won the presidency last year.
“Our family had hoped na iba siya. As he said during his inaugural speech, he was different from everyone else. He promised that he would change the way the government is run,” she shared.
Their being hopeful eroded when the Aquino government allowed Sen. Lacson, who was in hiding for more than a year, to return to the Philippines after lifting his warrant of arrest.
“Lumaki siya [PNoy] under the people power principle na para sa ikabubuti ng mas nakararami, hindi para sa sarili. He gave Justice Sec. De Lima marching orders to get truth and justice for all. We thought it actually meant all, as in everyone and not just their political friends,” Carina added.
Dacer added that in one of Sen. Lacson’s interviews, he hinted that he knew who the mastermind was in the murder of her father but he decided to keep quiet because he was turned off by the Dacer family.
“May alam ka pala. Why are you denying us that information? Why are you denying us that justice? Senador ka, aren’t you supposed to be upholding the law? Why are you withholding this very important information?” Carina said.
