Keeping families together is basic
Family reunification is just about the most prominent and the most important issue when it comes to immigration to the US. Many clients come to our office because they want to reunite with their loved ones. For our first free legal seminar of the year, we will focus on how to reunify with your family – the basics of family visa petitions.
In this free seminar, we will briefly touch on the basic immigrant categories and requirements. These immigrant categories are the result of ad hoc congressional determinations of which relatives of US citizens and lawful permanent residents should be permitted to immigrate. Examples of these categories are: Children of US Citizens, parents of US Citizens, unmarried sons and daughters of US Citizens and relatives of Lawful Permanent Residents.
Cutting the confusion on waiting times
We will try to simplify these categories for you. We will also breakdown who will be eligible to file the visa petition. Waiting time is a big issue for many families. We will try to show how to estimate how long it will take for your relatives to get here.
One of the most common issues in a family visa petition is the difference between a visa approval and the priority date. Many people are confused when their petitions are approved and wonder why it still takes so long for their relative to get here. We will explain why.
Understanding categories and preferences
One of the most common questions regards taking a spouse and children with you. We will explain which immigrant category will allow you to do so. We will also go into detail as to the length of time your family must wait abroad as you get settled in the U.S.
What are the first, second, third, and fourth preference family categories? By knowing the requirements for these categories, you can be better prepared once you proceed with your visa petition. We will take the mystery out of these categories.
What are the requirements? People often ask when they should get a valid passport; when they should get marriage or birth certificates; and where they should get police clearances. One of the most asked questions regards when and where to get a medical exam. We will have all the answers for you.
