THRONGS of Filipinos braved the heat and traffic to watch their favorite stars via The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) One Kapamilya Go! at California’s Great America in Santa Clara last Sunday, September 12.
An array of vendors and exhibitors supported this special event and everybody seemed to have enjoyed every minute of it. People rushed to gates around 10am, and enjoyed the thrilling rides, booths and food stalls as they waited for the start of the show.
Two hundred lucky fans were given the chance to be part of the exclusive meet and greet event with the top young loveteam Gerald Anderson and past Pinoy Big Brother winner, Kim Chiu. All the Kimerald fans were tickled to the bones after they had their photos taken and autographed from the young stars.
Another reason for the huge crowd was the first US staging of the popular talent contest, Showtime, with hosts Vhong Navarro, the very lovely Anne Curtis and of course, the "pambansang hurado ng bayan," Vice Ganda.
As always, Filipino-Aussie Anne was a showstopper in her sexy tangerine dress and her shimmering silver stilletos. Joining Vice Ganda as judges were Angelica Panganiban, star of the top teleserye Ruby; field TV host-comedian Gelo, and Hollywood actor Michael Copon who is a Filipino-German, and has starred as the Blue Power Ranger Lucas and One Tree Hill.
Pinoy Dream Academy runner-up Bugoy Drilon delighted the fans with his song and you can see that he has improved a lot. It was so refreshing to see how Bugoy gave morale support to his friend, Pinoy Got Talent champion Jovit Baldovino, who seemed to be a little bit jittery to face his US-based supporters and friends. But when they started performing, Jovit showed his innate talent that wowed viewers who supported him through the end of the show. Comedian Pooh was also there to join his Kapamilya colleagues.
The showdown of talented groups were all received warmly by the audience. Four teams competed for the grand prize and all of the groups had their own share of limelight as they presented and prepared dance numbers and antics. Two groups emerged as winners—Team Loopkicks and Funk Beyond Control—with each receiving $2,000.
Kudos to Showtime director Bobet Vidanes for creating another successful TV show. Of course, not far behind was Direk Bobet’s wife, ABS-CBN Head of Entertainment Production in Manila, the very refreshing Cory Vidanes. The gracious Ms. Vidanes was very excited to update us about Kris Aquino’s noontime show, Pilipinas Win na Win and how it will have a surprise turn around in a few months.
Also, more exciting teleseryes are in the works that will sustain the success of great hits like Magkaribal and the just recently wrapped up teleserye, Agua Bendita.
Jeffrey Remigio, Head of Corporate Affairs of ABS-CBN Global was also there to ensure that all media and business partners were having a grand time as they participated in the event. Hard-working as ever, John-D Lazatin, Head of Media Production and Events, was also seen co-directing some portions of the show.
Daly City Councilman Dave Canepa was at the event to present a special certificate of appreciation to some awardees. Also seen were TFC’s Chief Operating Officer Raffy Lopez with his wife and family, Atty. Michael Gurfinkel, the next Club Royale King and columnist Bradford Adkins, the first Filipina to run for Daly City Council Dorie Paniza and husband Lambert, and Manila Mail head Joey Panlilio.
The event would not also be possible if not for the great effort of Nerissa Fernandez, Head of Corporate Affairs, who despite of her hectic schedule, would always managed to exhibit her sincere appreciation to all guests and members of the press.
