Legendary Pinoy comic book artist passes away

LOS ANGELES – Tony DeZuniga, a Fil-Am comic book artist who penned famous characters such as Jonah Hex, Batman and the Incredible Hulk in his years at DC and Marvel, and more importantly, introduced the US comic book industry to talented artists in the Philippines has passed away. He was 79.

DeZuniga was with his wife, Tina, his sisters-in-law, and his daughter Sheryl when he passed away on May 11 in the Philippines, according to GMA News.

Sony reports record annual loss

TOKYO (AP) -- Sony Corp. racked up a record annual loss of 457 billion yen ($5.7 billion) in its fourth straight year of red ink as the once-glorious maker of the Walkman and PlayStation struggles toward a turnaround under a new president.

The electronics and entertainment company, which also makes "Spider-Man" movies, reported Thursday a loss of 255 billion yen ($3.2 billion) for the January-March period - its fifth straight quarterly net loss to round out a fiscal year that was the worst in its 66-year corporate history.

How to increase student achievement

THE United States has not been the leader for primary education for the past couple of years, and has dropped even further in the educational ranking among industrialized nations. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development places the United States 18th among the 36 nations examined, USA Today reported in 2010 and there has been little change in the past two years.

The graduation rate of American High School students is only about 75 percent, and this statistic drops even lower when looking at graduation rates of high schools in urban and metropolitan communities. Other industrialized countries such as South Korea, have a graduation rates for their High Schoolers are 90 percent.
