Invigorating Our Economy

Invigorating Our Economy

"Despite the global recession, the Philippines has managed to stay afloat by keeping its economy nourished with much-needed dollar remittances from Filipinos abroad. A major chunk of remittances garnered in 2008 came from our kababayans here in the United States. For Pinoys abroad, being able to send money home is their reward and consolation for being away from their families. The Asian Journal MDWK Magazine salutes the Overseas Filipino by bringing you this issue -- our way of extending well-deserved recognition to a new breed of heroes who send their love home and unconditionally sustain our mother country’s economy. A life for others

A life for others

"I would rather die a meaningful death than live a meaningless life," words from a housewife and a widow who fought for freedom bravely and who gave her best to rule wisely. The Asian Journal MDWK Magazine joins the entire Filipino nation as we grieve the loss of Tita Cory. And we pay our respects by bringing you this unfolding of a life well-lived -- the story of an icon of democracy who will forever be etched in our hearts."

Aspire to Inspire

"With almost anything we do involving the Fil-Am community, I believe we simply aspire to inspire," said Eric Solano, Parangal Dance Company’s Artistic Director and Choreographer. Some may think that a simple dance may not hold enough value to make a change, but then again, inspiring others to have a sense of pride in one’s own culture is not only admirable, but outstanding.

Empowered Pinays

Empowered Pinays

"Through diligence, dedication, innovative business strategies, creative supply solutions and high quality service, Anahau has overcome its many challenges and is making its mark in the energy industry," Suyen Encarnacion Pell shares with the Asian Journal. And true enough, these words have become the driving force that propels her and sibling Theresa Encarnacion Gendron to live a purposeful life by making a gargantuan contribution to the energy industry and waving the Filipino’s banner of ingenuity proudly through Anahau Energy. The Asian Journal MDWK Magazine brings you, our kababayans, their energizing tale -- one that bravely faces and overcomes obstacles and proving that the Pinoy is more than just a small fi sh in a big pond.

Breaking the mold

Breaking the mold

The Pinay’s beauty emerges once more, this time as a representative of the United States. Aileen Jan V. Yap, a 20-year-old Filipina stunner from Texas has been crowned this year as Miss USA International and will contend with other lovely hopefuls from around the globe in the 2009 Miss International Pageant in Macau, China in November. Aileen breaks the mold of westernized standards with her Filipina looks, charm and grace -- a fact that makes her kababayans here in the US truly proud. The Asian Journal MDWK Magazine is equally smitten as well and has chosen Aileen to grace the cover of this week’s issue.
