ConGen Herrera-Lim meets with Carson Mayor Dear and Mayor Pro Tem Santarina

LOS ANGELES – Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim paid a courtesy call on Mayor Jim Dear and Mayor Pro Tem Elito Santarina at Carson City Hall on April 5, 2014.

Mayor Dear and Mayor Pro Tem Santarina informed Consul General Herrera-Lim how the City of Carson has transformed from a bedroom community into an industrial and city with future projects as a destination city.

Consul General Herrera-Lim took the opportunity to invite Mayor Dear to join the 9th Ambassadors/Consuls General and Tourism Directors Tour with the basic tour beginning from 28 to 31 July 2014. The Consul General and the Carson officials discussed the importance of reviving sister-city relationships between Carson and Philippine cities, with the goal to tap renewable energy and facilitate the deployment of teachers. The City of Carson first sister-city was forged in 1972 with Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines and in 1988 with La Carlota, Philippines.

According to Mayor Dear approximately 15 percent (about 22,000 to 23,000) of the population in the City of Carson are of Filipino descent.
