PH tough cops bag medals in World Police and Fire Games 

ATHLETES from the Philippine National Police  (PNP) represented the country and brought home medals in the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in Los Angeles, California.

In taekwondo, PO1 Eva Claire Santiago from Cagayan assigned at  the Regional Public Safety Batallion (RPSB) Camp Bagong Diwa, garnered  two gold medals.

“I’m so happy that Team Pilipinas in taekwondo are gold medalists,” Santiago  said in Filipino.

Under the taekwondo’s poomsae team, the Philippine team led by SPO2 Dauphin Punzalan garnered a gold medal, while in the individual poomsae, Punzalan garnered silver and bronze medals

Meanwhile in boxing,  WPFG first-timer Jose Daryl Sobretado won a silver medal, after a split decision with  his opponent, Alberto Tapia, a Mexican- American  member of  USC department boxing.

“I’m happy to fight for final bouts and I do my best but I guess it’s not enough but maybe next time if I have the opportunity,” Sobretado said.

The PNP plans to join the world’s toughest cops games again in 2019,  to be held in Chengdu, China.

More than 8,000 athletes, all active or retired police officers or firefighters, from over 70 countries competed in over 65 different sports and disciplines. The biennial athletic event drew approximately 50,000 spectators.
