Alicia De Leon-Torres: Commissioner, City of San Diego’s Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention

Alice De Leon-Torres is one of the most outstanding Filipino-Americans in San Diego. Holding various key positions in the public and private sectors, Torres has over 20 years experience in cultivating, implementing and managing effective, strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships between diverse communities, non-profit and civic organizations, and corporate entities. She has been the Commissioner of San Diego’s Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention (District 5) since 2007. She is also the National Director of the National Asian Pacific American Families Against Substance Abuse, and the Board Chair of the Advisory Board (for Asian Pacific Islander Communities) of the San Diego Police Department, Office of the Chief of Police, a post she has held since 2004.

Alice Torres is also a Consultant at Greater San Diego Area Nonprofit Organization Management Industry, a Contributing Writer at Filipino Press, an Award Winning National Trainer & Community Development Consultant, and a Published Journalist & Technical/Creative Writer.

A graduate from San Diego State University & California State University (BA, Sociology and English), Torres has a proven track record in resource development including grant writing, specialized donor campaigns, in-kind donations and volunteer development and retention, as well as a long term success in developing, managing and evaluating innovative programs.
