Donna Mercado Kim

SENATOR Donna Mercado Lim represents the 14th Senatorial District in the Hawaii State Senate, which includes the areas of Moanalua, Aiea, Fort Shafter, Kalihi Valley and Halawa Valley on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Born and raised in the Kalihi-Palama neighborhood of Honolulu, she is of Filipino-Korean ancestry and is a member of the Democratic Party. Donna attended University of Hawai`i from 1970 to 1972, and has a BA degree from Washington State University where she graduated cum laude.

A strong and effective leader

• Elected to House of Representatives in 1982 from District 40

• Reelected to House in 1984; resigned a year later to seek seat on the Honolulu City Council (District VII) in special election

• Elected to City Council in 1984

• Reelected to Council for full four-year term in 1986 and consecutively in 1990, 1994, and 1998

• Served as chair of the Council’s powerful Zoning Committee for 13 of her 14 years

• Resigned seat in July 2000 to seek election to the Senate from District 15; won landslide victory in November general election

• Serves as chair of Senate Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee
