FATHER Domingo Cruz is the pastor at St. Bridget Church in Schriever, Louisiana. A member of the Diocese of Houma~Thibodaux, Cruz has served as a pastor at St. Bridget since July 2005.
Cruz, a native of the Philippines, was ordained in 1973.
Cruz told the Bayou Catholic news, he became a priest because of his mother’s devotion to the Catholic faith. His devotion to God was strengthened while attending seminary school, he added.
“While I was in the seminary two priests who were my professors inspired me to go on with my vocation to the priesthood,” he said. “The way they dealt with people, their patience and love, and how they shared themselves with other, especially those in need influenced me also.”
He says the most fulfilling part about being a priest is sharing the many aspects of the ministry to the people.
“I can sometimes engineer to the people I minister, explaining the specification of the structure of the their soul or of their whole being as children of God and then try to show them the architectural design of the inner and out art of God’s plan for them so that they can appreciate him as master of creation,” he said.
“Celebrating the sacraments is a privilege because of the awesome power of God shared with the people through the priesthood,” he added.
For the past 25 years, Cruz has served as a priest in the Philippines and in the US. He was recently appointed to another three-year term as pastor of St. Bridget’s. He told the Bayou Catholic that he loves being a priest and wants to continue to spread God’s message.
“I just want to continue the current ministries in the parish, respond to the needs of the people and be present to them,” he said. “As a priest, I really just want to always spread the Good News by my words, actions and my lifestyle so that people will realize how to live the Kingdom of the Father.”
