LONG-time Filipino-American community activist Bert Almeda has been appointed Honorary Deputy Sheriff, Honorary Assistant State Attorney and named Filipino Ambassador to Hillsborough County in Florida.
Almeda is the president of the Pilipino-American Political Aggregation Inc. (PAPAG), a long-standing and respected Fil-Am organization in the state of Florida. PAPAG’s mission is two-fold: first, to campaign for candidates to be elected to public office and other government positions. And, lobby for laws and programs benefiting the local community and Filipino-Americans.
PAPAG has successfully lobbied the former Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature to give full funding to the cultural facilities grant projects of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc., according to Pulitika.org, a FilAm news website in Florida.
"Mr. Almeda’s unselfish contributions, volunteerism, service, political education and initiatives for his community earned him their respect and acknowledgment as a political leader," wrote Pulitika.org.
According to Pulitika, Almeda was appointed Honorary Assistant State Attorney by Hillsborough County State Attorney Mark Ober; appointed Honorary Deputy Sheriff by Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee; and awarded and named Filipino Ambassador to the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office by Public Defender Julie Holt.
Pulitika sees Almeda’s leadership and appointments as a win for the Filipino American community.
