THE Barack Obama administration appointed Christina Lagdameo as the Deputy Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders on April 26, 2010.
Lagdameo would be responsible for working to improve the quality of life ofAsian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the US.
Prior to her appointment, Lagdameo worked in India for an organizationthat rescues and rehabilitates women and children survivors of sex trafficking. She also has worked with the Organization for Economic Cooperation andDevelopment in Paris on an e-government financing project.
From 2000 to 2007, she also worked for the White House Office of Management and Budget where she helped examine over $45 billion in federal income support programs, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Refugee Resettlement and issues relating to asset poverty.
Most recently, Lagdameo received the AAUW/NASPA Womenof Distinction Award at the 2010 National Conference for College Women StudentLeaders (NCCWSL) in June. The award pays tribute toleaders who have made extraordinary contributions in their professions or intheir communities.
Lagdameo graduated from the University of Maryland. During her time at UM, she helped establish the first Asian American Studies Program in the DC metropolitan area. She is a Public Policy and International Affairs Fellow, a Presidential Management Fellow and received her Master’s in Public Policy from the New School for Social Research in New York City.
