BORN in 1968 in LA, California, John Delgado moved to Hercules more than eight years ago with his wife Jeanne. He tried to run for office several years ago but was unsuccessful. This year, Delgado won a seat in the city council.
Delgado is one of five council members of the city of Hercules . He attended and obtained degrees from the University of California Los Angeles (bachelors of science in electrical engineering) and the University of California Hastings College of the Law ( jurors doctorate).
Prior to his election to the city council, Delgado was the Assistant district attorney for the San Francisco District Attorney’s office.
Delgado said that his main reason for running for office is to address the conflicts of interest in City Hall, to have a more open and transparent government and to put more focus on completing the Waterfront.
He said what sets him apart is that he is a prosecutor. “My job is following the law, adhering to a higher standard of ethics and pursuing justice. I’m an independent, outside voice; I’m a homeowner who commutes from the city with a full time job and two young children. I think that that viewpoint should also be represented on the City Council.”
With his seat in the city council, Delgado said his top three priorities are:
1) Transparency: The city needs to record and publish the minutes of subcommittee meetings. Every check that’s written by the city should be published. Also, agendas should come out more than the minimum of two days prior to the government meeting.
2) Ordinance passed to address the conflict of interest issues with the city government.
3) Waterfront: I think City Council should add as an agenda item so residents can know where the project stands.
