Celebrating love this Valentine’s —and every day for couples

This Saturday, February 14, is the day of love, wine and roses and I have asked some of my friends—especially happily married couples—on how they will celebrate Valentine’s Day.   Their answers vary from giving red roses (a symbol of the day), special gifts, a romantic lunch or dinner, a weekend getaway, or simply spending the day with their family.

No matter how you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day, one thing should remain constant—that love should be given everyday.

In Philippine showbiz, love is all around.  Here are a number of celebrities celebrating the love month extra special:

Pokwang and her new love

Comedienne Pokwang has that extra sparkle in eyes and recently admitted that she was already in a relationship with American actor, Lee O’Brian.    Lee was the leading man of Pokwang in the movie, Edsa Woolworth, which was produced by The Filipino Channel (TFC).

In an interview with Kris Aquino, Pokwang shared that she was hoping that Lee would be the “one.”  She also said that during the actor’s visit to the Philippines to attend the premiere night of their film, they were able to talk about their relationship.

Mahirap na ako lang yung in love. Tapos doon ko nalaman, sinabi niya na alam mo ba first shooting day pa lang mayroon na siya keme (feelings),” Pokwang shared to Kris.  “Tapos sinabi niya gusto niya ako, masaya siya kapag nakikita niya ako kapag magkasama kami,” she said.

She also asked the American actor what their status was and Lee answered her with a kiss, which flattered Pokwang.

Yeng Constantino’s Valentine wedding

It’s really going to be a special Valentine’s Day for singer Yeng Constantino, as she is tying the knot with fellow singer Yan Asuncion.  They will have a Christian wedding ceremony at Hacienda Isabella, Cavite.

The two met in 2012 in their church, the Victory Christian Fellowship.  They admitted their relationship in 2013, and Yan finally proposed to the 26-year-old singer March of last year.

Putting God in the center of their relationship, Yeng shared before that accepting Yan’s proposal of marriage is a “leap of faith.”  Yan, on the other hand, knew the young singer was “the one” although they were only dating for eight months.

Nikki Gil now engaged to BJ Albert

Singer and MYX VJ Nikki Gil confirmed last February 6 that she is already engaged to businessman BJ Albert.  Although the proposal happened last December, Nikki wanted to keep a low profile about it.

“I really want to be discreet about it, but since it’s out anyway and I’m confirming it.  And yes, I got engaged last year,” Nikki said in an interview with ABS-CBN last February 6.

Of course, many were surprised about the engagement, as she never talked about her boyfriend.  Since her split with ex-boyfriend singer/host Billy Crawford, Nikki has been more private about her love life.

The couple met through a common friend in 2013 and became a couple in 2014.

Nikki also shared that they had actually been talking about marriage already even before they got engaged.

Hindi naman siya gulatan portion.  It just dawned on me how good God is to me, how He picked me up, picked up the broken pieces of me and put it together and rewarded me with the man of my prayers,” she said.

Although they have not set a date for their wedding, Nikki said that she is just enjoying the moment.

“Now, I’m enjoying this stage. I’m always the kind of girl naman na I date with marriage in the future. I don’t date kung alam kong maglalaro lang. it didn’t take much adjusting, I’m just more happy now. Kasi may definite na patutunguhan. I am more excited about the life after wedding. I am more excited to start the rest of my life,” she said.

All the best to the happy couples and to all my readers, Happy Valentine’s Day!
