Filipina actress joins cast of award-winning play GOLIATH

Iliana Inocencio, a Filipina-Singaporean actress adds new dimension to role as she joins the cast of critically acclaimed, GOLIATH. Inocencio takes on the emotionally demanding role of Maria, the young wife of an enlisted soldier. After her husband is ripped from their new marriage, she is left to confront the trials and tribulations of what it is to be married to a military man serving in Iraq.
Written by Takeo Rivera, GOLIATH follows the heartbreaking journey of an enlisted soldier, David. Through poetry, movement, and spoken word, David’s tumultuous relationships due to war-life are lived out onstage in this thought-provoking and gut-wrenching piece. GOLIATH begs the audience to examine not only the characters’ actions, but also their own, during an eerily relatable time and place where love and war must co-exist.
GOLIATH has won 5 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity Awards including Outstanding Overall Production of A New Play. In addition to its focus on the effects of war, GOLIATH pushes the idea that war knows no racial limitations. Director, Alex Mallory has put together an astonishingly multi-ethnic cast of talents and Inocencio only adds further diversity and depth with her Filipino-Singaporean heritage. Inocencio remarked, “Alex had mentioned in a rehearsal that the first thing she wanted was a diverse cast. I applaud that because not too many directors feel they can take that risk. They feel bound by what they’re used to seeing. We suspend our disbelief all the time when we go to theater, so why can’t we apply that to the racial makeup of a cast too? I think we all know what it is to love and lose and then try to continue to live each day without someone you care deeply about. It’s all truly universal–regardless of skin color. ”
Inocencio is not new to activist pieces and recently partook in Collateral Bodies, a play that shed light on the atrocities of human trafficking. She is currently a student at The William Esper Studios with a concentration in the Meisner Acting technique and has previously studied Musical Theater extensively. Inocencio performs regularly as a comedic improviser at The People’s Improv Theater and hosts their official podcast, The PITCast. Culturally, Inocencio has  represented her Filipina heritage as a former Miss Teenage Philippines USA.
